"Since being a cadet in the late 80s I had heard rumors of a CAP "ranger school" but couldn't find anything on it. No internet access, and NHQ admitted no knowledge of such a school. When I became a senior and transfered to DC Wing it was a little more known and I had actually met a few graduates. It seemed as though everyone who had gone were really proud of it and talked a lot of stuff. In fact, before I went to Winter Hawk a cadet said to me "watch out for the air pumps they use to fill their heads".

"Now I know what it's all about. It's not that the graduates are better than other CAP members, it's just that they've been physically and mentally challenged more than most. There are no barracks and there is no chow hall. And I certainly didn't see any showers. Most activities in CAP don't have you living in a tent or natural shelter for two days like Winter Hawk, let alone nine like Summer School."
