Captain Scott Matthews is California Wing's answer to Kevin Smith. His seminal works, the 1999 California Wing Encampment video and his more recent encampment commercials (click here and here) have been featured here on CadetStuff previously. This year, Scott has been tapped by National Headquarters to travel to each National Cadet Special Activity this summer and document the events for future advertising and promotional use. CadetStuff equipped Scott with a CadetStuff t-shirt (literally the 2nd t-shirt off the presses!) and asked him to send us updates as he journeys across the country. Each week, his travelogue will be serialized here in as many parts as is required.
07/10/01 - Hawk Mountain
Well, here we go again.
I arrive at the airport with nobody here to pick me up. This is getting to be routine.
I have just spoken to an airport agent (Im at ABE, Allentown, in PA), and he says Hawk Mountain is approximately an hour away, and is experiencing storms, so thats the most likely cause for the delay.
I dont have their number and they dont have mine (woops!). [Editor's Note: This is the classic example of "proper prior planning preventing poor performance." That's not, however, what you tell Scott at the airport at midnight. I think he can chalk this one up as "experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." -DN]
Its 2223 and I arrived at 2100. The airport agent says Im more than welcome to spend the night.
Yay.
