Captain Scott Matthews is California Wing's answer to Kevin Smith. His seminal works, the 1999 California Wing Encampment video and his more recent encampment commercials (click here and here) have been featured here on CadetStuff previously. This year, Scott has been tapped by National Headquarters to travel to each National Cadet Special Activity this summer and document the events for future advertising and promotional use. CadetStuff equipped Scott with a CadetStuff t-shirt (literally the 2nd t-shirt off the presses!) and asked him to send us updates as he journeys across the country. Each week, his travelogue will be serialized here in as many parts as is required.
07/07/01 - Cadet Officer School, Maxwell AFB
Im leaving momentarily for AETCFC.
COS was a cool activity that I would highly recommend for officers around the country. Its a great way to get 1000s of dollars worth of direct leadership knowledge and expertise for so much less. The cadets Ive interviewed had a variety of interests and goals, and felt that COS will greatly help their CAP and life careers.
Ive had my first trial with all the new equipment, and Ive got to say its HEAVY!!! The camera and Glidecam total about 14lbs, and I've got to lug around additional lenses, and batteries. Ive rigged up an army LBV to help carry the stuff. Ill try to get a pic to post ;-).
Despite sudden rainstorms, and the hot weather, I enjoyed the stay.
Well, gotta get the luggage out. Hopefully they won't lose it this time.
