All the old garbage you can handle!

:: 7 Years and We're Still Here!
Can you believe that CadetStuff turns SEVEN this month? SEVEN! (And we've only been talking about replacing the content management system for the last THREE years. We're trying to get the maximum depreciation out of that capital investment, baby, cuz the IRS loves us..)

Seven years is a long time. For example, that Horn guy was a cadet when we hired him. Now he's married with 4 rug-rats and one is approaching cadet age. (OK, not really) But seriously, over the last seven years our staffers have started college, graduated from college, gotten married, had kids, bought a house, been divorced (*cough*), quit CAP, joined other cadet programs and even managed to get themselves enlisted in the RealMilitary™. *Whew* We've had a lot going on. And over 500 articles on CadetStuff, too.

This month, its a mixed bag of stuff, mostly because our production editor decided he wanted to take that "embedded journalist" assignment over in the CENTCOM AOR, and, well, he's been goofing off and spending all his free time on NiqābBook, and that left this month's kludge up to Mr. Thumbs himself, the Managing Editor. (Help a brother out folks, and check out our "help wanted" page, eh?). First up this month is a total doosie. Yep, we reached back to 1973 and tickled the faculty of Walt Whitman High School in LA for a little Aerospace Education Public Service Announcement back when CAP was "hip" dude. Read on and find out how one of our very own CadetStuff'ers had a small part, sort of .... Next is something that's somewhat related, its a video (wait, did I say VIDEO? I meant FILM. As in 16mm and needs to be PROJECTED... FILM...) produced by the Air Force Audiovisual Service called The Young Ambassadors, detailing Civil Air Patrol participation in the International Air Cadet Exchange in the 1970s. Check it out, if only to see hairstyles that defy proper headgear wear and sideburns that Elvis would be proud of ... Whoa, will wonders never cease! The Army finally got off its duff and updated FM 22-102. Its about time, as our soldiers were looking like they needed some tuning up. And now we have our own replacement for Ultimate Kirt ... Links? Yeah, we got 'em, including this month's link to a wonderful site for you nascent Kings of Snivel Gear: the home of the Tactical Trunk Monkey, Mil-Spec Monkey.

Don't forget, CadetStuff is still hiring. We're presently on the lookout for a Features Editor, a Production Editor, a Multimedia Producer and some Associate Editors to help spread the load. If you're a cadet, all the better!

That's it for April 2008. Read on!
Features :: Back When CAP Was "Hip"
room2223.jpgRecently I was contacted by a shadowy figure and offered some "interesting" videos. Expecting the opportunity to watch ABSCAM-like surveillance footage of a senior officer receiving briefcase loads of cash from a major uniform item supplier, I jumped at the chance. Imagine my surprise, however... Continue reading
Features :: FM 22-102 Released (finally!)
Some of your Senior NCOs and older officers will remember the many and varied forms of leadership advice offered by this manual as an integral part of a daily diet of discipline and duty. Many a soldier from Privates all the way to Captain were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to be counseled in heretofore unknown ways found within the very pages of this unlikely tome. Features :: The Young Ambassadors
At the same time the student of Mr. Dixon's homeroom were trying to make their rockets go 3000 feet in the air, some other Civil Air Patrol cadets were traveling thousands of miles to visit their cadet brothers and sisters in other countries as representatives of the United States Air Force Auxiliary.
