All the old garbage you can handle!

:: Well, Its About Time!
Yeah, we know, we've been complacent and stupid and lazy.. Sue us! To replace that great entry with Baghdad Bob about the CadetStuff Readership Survey (for a limited time only, restrictions apply, see store display for details), we've concocted a few things for your viewing pleasure this month. First up is an appeal for assistance for an unofficial project from Ned Lee. If you've got a set of BDUs that you don't feel meets your personal standards, but are still serviceable, consider donating them to needy cadets in Africa via the program we've dubbed "Gear Up for Ghana." Sally Struthers will not call and bug you, either ... Next, John Knowles reminds us that leadership isn't always about altruism, but sometimes its about reward and praise, too, in his piece "Taking Care of Business." ... Just before he jets off to sunny climes in the CENTCOM AOR, Shawn Stanford proves to us that the Five-Paragraph OPORD along with good troop leading procedures will save your butt. We're inclined to agree with him, just long enough till he's out of the country ... And once again, CadetStuff appeals to you, the readership, for assistance in staffing this claptrap of a website. We're hiring folks, in ways you cannot even begin to imagine. Ever wanted to work long hours for free on the off chance that you'll get fame, fortune and glory? Now's your chance to find out what the rest of the staff knows: Its fun, but the pay stinks! ... Finally this month is a link to a website that's sure to keep you tied up for days. Literally! Take a quick peek at Animated Knots by Grog before the rabbit goes behind the tree and back into the hole. Thats it. Keep your eyes peeled for next month where we try to pull a rabbit out of our Orange hats!

Leadership :: SMEAC - The Five Paragraph Order
The key to an OPORD is that it is always in the same format. This common format means that no matter who is giving the order, you know what kind of information you're going to get next. This common format – known as SMESC or SMEAC – is used to develop and deliver orders for missions of any size. Continue reading
Leadership :: Taking Care of Business
Allow me toss out one of those broad statements that writers should avoid. All normal people like being rewarded when they’ve worked hard and done a good job. This includes cadets (not that cadets aren’t normal but we all know some….) Pavlov taught us all about operant conditioning and that giving a reward causes an animal (humans are animals too) to repeat the act that got them the reward. Continue reading

News & Events :: Gear Up For Ghana
What I found there was thousands of incredibly enthusiastic cadets and some highly dedicated adults working hard to make a successful cadet program. I visited with cadets from as far south as Accra on the Gulf of Guinea to Tamale and the areas near the Burkino-Faso border. And I discovered cadets that enjoy intensive leadership training, drill and ceremonies, and who work on public service projects. Kinda like CAP. Who knew? Continue reading
