All the old garbage you can handle!

:: It's that Turkey time of year..!
pilgrim_hat.gifAnd speaking of turkeys: have we got a gobbler of an issue for you! ... First, we might as well get the shower of Dr. Drill mail out of the way. The Good Doctor (or should that be Dr. Goodbar?) answers questions about 21-gun salutes, presenting arms and found - on his own, mind you - a note about the whole 'salute zone' thing. Finally, it seems like the Doctor dispensed some bad medicine recently. Time to up those malpractice payments! ... For articles, we have a piece by Jackie Briski explaining just how hard being a leader sucks. ... New contributor Andrew Wilson gives the benefit of hindsight and how the Cadet Program made him successful in theReal World. ... Plus, a tasty link about a tasty guy: Bear Grylls of "Man vs. Wild"! ... Finally, you got a couple minutes, Bub? Sure you do! So go ahead and help the ACA to see what kinds of folks are actually doing this whole 'cadetting' thing and take their survey! You'll be glad that you did! ... And that's about it for this holiday edition of CadetStuff. Hasty la pasta, baby!
Links :: ACA Cadet Survey
The American Cadet Alliance is conducting a survey to gather data from Cadets and Cadet Program adults. Please click here to complete the survey. This survey will gather data from members of the American Cadet Alliance, Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Civil Air Patrol, Young Marines, Junior ROTC and Military Exploring Programs. The primary focus on this survey is on Community-Based Cadeting, rather than School-Based Cadetting. While the survey and the metrics are designed to show the Army the value of Cadetting, the data will be shared across all programs and published at the DoD level. The staff of CadetStuff.org thanks you in advance for your participation!
Drill :: Dr. Drill bites it hard...
Esteemed Dr. Drill, I just thought I'd drop you an email to let you know that NAVMC 2691 has been superseded by MCO P5060.20. Also, this new MCO states that color guards will carry their rifles on opposite shoulders. Continue reading
Leadership :: We Don't Promise You A Rose Garden
rose_garden_poster.jpgLeadership is not for the faint of heart. Being a leader means more than receiving salutes and getting a special reserved parking space. Being a leader means facing unfathomably difficult decisions and indescribable loneliness. Continue reading
Leadership :: CAP: Serious About Leadership
Despite all of the anger, frustration, and outright hatred I, and many others, have had directed towards the Civil Air Patrol, I will be forever thankful for the lessons that I have learned through its Cadet Program. Continue reading
Drill :: Any port in a storm...
Dr. Drill: I joined a VFW post and was watching their color guard at a football game. As the national anthem was playing I noticed that the color guard went from right shoulder arms to present arms. I believe this is a incorrect movment. Should they have first gone to port arms, then to present arms? Then from present arms back to port arms then to shoulder arms? I used to drill troops in the Corps, but it's been a long time. Continue reading
Drill :: Tell it to the Marines...
Hi Kids! The Doctor was nosing through an old copy of the Guidebook for Marines (14th Edition, ca. 1981), when he came across the following tidbits regarding saluting... Continue reading
Drill :: 21 Gun Saluting..?
Dr. Drill, In uniform and in formation, do you salute for a 21 gun salute? Also, you all run a great website. Keep up the good work. Continue reading
Links :: Man vs. Wild
Okay, kids: the Discovery Channel is rerunning a series they snagged from BBC 4 called Man vs. Wild and starring former SAS Soldier Bear Grylls. Now, we love Les Stroud and his survival adventures, but there's something about watching Bear actually do stuff to himself - like jumping into a frozen lake in the Alps and then stripping naked and rubbing himself with snow to dry off - that Les just can't match. It doesn't hurt that Bear is a hunk with a cool name and a posh accent, either! Anyway, check out his site and check out his show.
